Chapter 1: Why Firing Schedules Make or Break Cloisonné and Champlevé
Every kiln is a liar. It tells you it's at 1450°F when the enamel on your test piece is still crawling like cold honey. It tells you it's holding steady when the pyrometer needle is actually drifting five degrees every thirty seconds. And the worst lie of all: it tells you that firing is just "getting the piece hot enough." If you carry that assumption into cloisonné and champlevé, you will produce cracked glass, mud-colored transparents, and wire that lifts off the base plate on the third firing.
