Chapter 1: Why Your Teen Is Anxious (and Why It's Not Your Fault)

You have probably read dozens of articles and heard a hundred well-meaning comments that go something like, "Teens are just dramatic," or "It's just a phase, they'll grow out of it." And maybe you have also felt the other side, the quiet, creeping fear that something is genuinely wrong, that you missed a step, or that you caused this by working too much or not being strict enough or being too strict. I want to start with a story that might feel familiar. A mother I worked with, let's call her Dana, had a fourteen-year-old daughter named Chloe. Chloe was a good kid.
