The prevailing myth is that relationships fail because of poor communication. If we just listened more, used the right words, and scheduled more quality time, everything would be fine. This is wrong. The vast majority of relationship breakdowns I have studied and worked with are not accidental communication failures. They are structural failures. The system, not the individual words, is broken.
