The Quick Fix That Is Not One

You already know the advice. You have read the listicles. You have practiced standing up straight in the mirror. You have memorized the scripts: "Let's find some common ground," "I am comfortable with what I said," "Best of luck." You have repeated the affirmation that you are a worthy person and your voice matters. And then, somewhere between the thought and the spoken word, a gap opens up. Your throat tightens.
