Your laptop's processor, the chip in your phone, the sensor that triggers your car's airbag — every one of those tiny silicon squares passed through the hands and machines of a processing technician (often called a "fab tech" or "equipment operator") dozens of times before it was ever sealed into a package. The work happens in a chip fabrication plant, which the industry calls a "fab." These buildings look more like spaceship hangars than typical factories.
