Imagine you're standing at a long stainless-steel workbench under bright fluorescent lighting. In front of you is a flat sheet of blue-and-white paper covered in lines, boxes, and numbered labels - a wiring schematic. Beside that sits a cardboard tray holding a dozen small components: a handful of resistors the size of rice grains, a small black relay about the size of a thimble, some plastic connectors, and a spool of 22-gauge wire that's thinner than a strand of spaghetti. That's the scene. You're an electrical and electronic equipment assembler, and your job is to take all of those loose parts and turn them into a working device - a control board, a sensor unit, a power supply, a wiring harness - that plugs into a larger machine or system.

The word assembler makes the work sound simpler than it is. You're not just snapping pieces together like a plastic model kit. You're building the electrical nervous system of a product. In a given week, you might spend hours with a soldering iron melting lead-free solder to join a wire to a circuit board's metal pad, you'll strip insulation off wires with a pair of handheld wire strippers, you'll crimp metal terminals onto the ends of those wires with a specialized crimping tool that looks like a heavy pair of pliers, and you'll use a multimeter - a handheld device with two metal probes - to test whether
