That simplicity is deceptive. The physical behavior of a pom-pom installation is determined by material density, the precision of the manufacturing folds, the method of gathering, and human error during fluffing. Every failure you will encounter on a job site, whether it is sagging after four hours, a half-open product that looks like a lumpy lantern, or an adhesive anchor that pulls paint off a ceiling, traces back to one of these variables.

To understand what you are actually buying, separate the decorative object from the material science underneath. The fundamental building block is the tissue paper itself, regardless of whether you are purchasing a ready-made pom-pom or a flat-pack that you expand. Tissue paper for decorative pom-poms is typically sold by grammage, the weight in grams per square meter. Standard party tissue runs between 16 and 20 gsm.
