Every cardiac arrest, every choking victim, every severe allergic reaction exists first as an idea in a textbook and then as a simulation on a mannequin before it is ever a real patient in front of you. That simulation is the critical bridge between knowing a protocol and performing it under stress. A training mannequin is not a doll, and it is not a passive object. It is a measurement instrument. Its primary job is to give you and your students accurate feedback on whether a skill was performed correctly.
Consider the core skill of chest compressions. The correct depth for an adult is about two inches, or five to six centimeters, and the correct rate is between 100 and 120 compressions per minute. A student can practice on a pillow or a rolled-up jacket, and they will learn the rhythm of counting. But they will not learn whether they are compressing deeply enough, whether they are allowing the chest to fully recoil, or whether they are leaning on the chest between compressions. A mannequin with an internal spring mechanism or a sensor array can tell you exactly how deep that compression went, and it can tell you if you are leaning too much. That feedback loop is the entire point of the equipment. Without it, you are rehearsing choreography without checking your posture.
