A printer stand is a structural component of the printing system, not a piece of furniture it happens to sit on. It carries the full static weight of the machine, the dynamic forces of operation, and the loads of daily handling - refilling paper, slamming the scanner lid, or pushing the unit to clean behind it. If the stand cannot handle these forces without excessive flex or sway, the printer will respond in measurable ways: paper misfeeds, registration drift, increased noise, and premature wear on drive components.
Consider a standard business multifunction printer (MFP) weighing roughly 250 pounds with a duplexing ADF and a full paper cabinet. The manufacturer's specifications will state a required surface strength, but that number is only the beginning. During a print run, the paper feed rollers and fuser create cyclical vibrations. A rigid, well-designed stand will absorb and dampen that vibration. A hollow-core particleboard desk or a flimsy wire cart will resonate, transmitting that energy back into the printer's frame.
