Chapter 1: First Day
Welcome to day one. You are about to sit down with a 3D printer for the first time, and I want you to know what to expect before you even touch a button. If you have never seen one of these machines run in person, that is completely fine. Nothing you do today requires prior experience. Your only job is to get oriented, touch the machine, and finish the session with one small, real win under your belt.
Let's set the scene. You have cleared a table. It is not wobbly. You have a power outlet nearby, and you have brought the printer itself, still in its box or sitting on the table like a patient animal waiting to be woken. If you bought a printer, great. If you are using one at a library or a maker space, the same steps apply - you just might have to ask where the power switch is. That's fine. Asking is part of this.
Your first task is not to print anything. It is simpler and just as important: you are going to get the machine ready to work. Think of it like warming up before a run. You would not sprint on cold legs, and you should not start a print on a machine you have not checked. So, first things first, unbox it if it is in a box. Remove any tape or packing foam. Be gentle but thorough. Look at the machine's frame. Most 3D
