Chapter 1: First Day

Welcome. This is the beginning of a ten-day experiment. By the end of it, you'll have made a few things, ruined a few more, and — most importantly — you'll have an actual answer to the question that brought you here: Is acrylic painting something I want to keep doing? That's it. That's the goal. Not a masterpiece, not a gallery show, just an honest, informed yes or no. This first day is about getting your hands dirty in the most literal way possible and finding out that the blank canvas in front of you is a lot less scary than it looks.

Let's talk about what today will actually look like. You're going to spend about an hour, maybe ninety minutes at most, sitting at a table or a desk with a few basic supplies laid out in front of you. You're not going to paint a picture today. You're not even going to attempt a landscape or a portrait or a still life. Today, you're going to do three things: you're going to get familiar with the physical feel of the paint, you're going to mix colors on a palette, and you're going to create one small, tangible win that you can look at and say, "I made that color."

Before you start, you need to gather a few things. Do not go out and buy a fancy art kit. Raid your house first. You need a flat surface you don't mind getting paint
