Chapter 1: First Day
Welcome to the table. Today is the day you stop thinking about bridge as that complicated thing other people play and start doing something with a real deck of cards. By the end of this first session, you'll have your hands on thirteen cards, you'll understand the shape of a single deal, and you'll have played a small trick — and won it. That win, tiny though it sounds, is the whole game in miniature. Let's get you there.
First, gather what you need. The honest truth is that for today you only need three things: a standard 52-card deck, a flat surface, and someone to sit across from you. If you don't have a partner, don't panic — you can play both hands by yourself for this first exercise, and on day two we'll talk more about how to set that up long-term. For now, the kitchen table works. A desk works. The floor works, if that's your vibe. You do not need a special bridge table. You do not need a bidding box or a scorepad or a rulebook. You need cards and a bit of focus.
