Chapter 1: First Day

Welcome to day one. If you're reading this, you're probably standing somewhere near a park, holding a disc you maybe bought yesterday (or found in a garage), and wondering what exactly you're supposed to do with it. That's good. That's the right place to start. Disc golf is a sport where you throw a plastic disc into a raised metal basket with chains hanging down, trying to get it in with as few throws as possible. It's like golf, but instead of hitting a small ball with a club, you're throwing a disc with your arm. And instead of holes, you have baskets. That's the whole premise. Everything else is technique, and you'll learn that in the next few days.

Today, you're not going to play a full round. You're not even going to aim at a basket yet, unless one happens to be right there. Today is about getting the disc in your hand, making your first throws, and feeling what it's like to fling a piece of plastic through the air. Your only goal is to make a throw that goes 80 feet (about 25 meters) in a straight line. That's it. No accuracy, no power, no spin. Just a throw that leaves your hand, flies flat for a moment, and lands somewhere in front of you. That might sound too easy, but you'd be surprised how many beginners can't do it on their first try because they're trying to throw too hard. So
