If you're reading this on a Tuesday night after work, or on a Saturday morning with a cup of coffee, you're already past the hardest part—deciding to actually try this instead of just thinking about it. So let's make today count. It's going to be short, it's going to be concrete, and by the end of it, you'll have one small, real win under your belt.
First, let's set the expectation for what this day is not. We are not going to identify a single mushroom. We are not going to harvest anything rare, anything exotic, or anything you'll need a special permit for. We're not even going to talk about the rules and regulations of foraging yet—that comes later, and honestly, you'll appreciate it more once you've felt what it's like to find something edible outside a grocery store. Today is about orientation. It's about getting your eyes and your feet used to looking at the world slightly differently.
Here's the one concrete goal for today: take a 20-minute walk in any green space near you, and find one plant you can confidently identify by name out loud. That's it. One plant. It could be a dandelion in a lawn. It could be a clump of wild garlic in a park (you'll know it by the strong garlic smell when you crush a leaf). It could be a plant you already know from your garden—a plain, ordinary nettle. The goal
