Chapter 1: First Day
Welcome to day one. You have probably heard the word "geocaching" and maybe you have a vague picture in your head: people with handheld GPS devices wandering in the woods, looking for Tupperware, writing their names in a tiny soggy notebook. That picture is not wrong, but it is incomplete. Geocaching is a modern treasure hunt where people hide containers all over the world and share the exact coordinates on an app or website. The container — called a "cache" — can be as small as a fingernail or as large as a shoebox. Your job is to use the coordinates and a bit of detective work to find it. When you do, you sign a logbook inside, put the container back exactly where you found it, and log your find on the app. That is the whole game.
Today is not about learning all of that. Today is about one thing: getting you outside, looking for one real cache, and giving you a taste of what this hobby actually feels like — the confusion, the small thrill, the ridiculous satisfaction of finding a plastic box that somebody hid under a log.
