Chapter 1: First Day
Welcome. If you're reading this, you're probably feeling a mix of curiosity and mild intimidation. Good. That's exactly the right place to start. Robotics is a big field - it feels like it should require a degree in six different forms of engineering. But starting is actually much simpler than you think. The first step isn't about understanding complex physics or writing elegant code. It's about getting a few small, cheap parts in your hands and seeing how they talk to each other. That's it. That's the whole game for today.
So let's talk about what your first real session is going to look like. I'm not going to ask you to build a humanoid robot or program a computer vision system. Today, you're going to get a basic understanding of the essential building blocks of any robot: a brain, sensors, and motors. And you're going to do it by holding these things and, more importantly, by simply observing them. Your goal for the next hour or so is not to build anything that moves on its own. Your goal is to build a simple circuit that does nothing more than demonstrate a basic electrical connection. It sounds boring, but it's the foundation for everything else, and it's a guaranteed small win.
First, a tiny bit of vocabulary, because the words in this field will start flying at you. The "brain" of a simple robot is usually a microcontroller. This is just a small, cheap
