Chapter 1: Why Most Approaches Fail — and What Actually Works
You already have the setup. The dual monitors, the ergonomic chair, the noise-canceling headphones, the premium task manager you migrated to last January. You have read the listicles with titles like "10 Habits of Highly Effective Remote Workers" and "The Ultimate Guide to Working From Home." You have tried time-blocking. You have tried the Pomodoro technique. You have tried closing all browser tabs except the one you actually need.
And yet, at the end of the day, you feel a specific kind of exhaustion that is hard to explain to people who still commute. It is not the tiredness of physical labor or the fatigue of a long meeting schedule. It is a low-grade, buzzing sense that you were busy for ten hours and produced maybe two hours' worth of meaningful work. Your Slack channel is a graveyard of half-finished conversations. Your email inbox is a triage unit. You had a video call at 11 AM that could have been an email, and an email at 3 PM that should have been a 15-minute call, and somehow both of those failed to connect you with the person you actually needed to talk to.
If this sounds familiar, you have probably concluded one of two things. The first is that you are not disciplined enough. The second is that you have not found the right app. This book is going to argue that you are wrong on both counts.
