About this book

Boating gloves protect the most abused tools on any vessel: your hands. But choosing the right pair is not about the logo on the wrist. It is about understanding the forces and environments that gloves actually face. This handbook explains how a glove works—how silicone prints create grip, how synthetic leather resists rot, how insulation layers trap heat—and gives you the criteria to match a glove to a specific job, whether that is pulling anchor line in the sun, hauling crab pots at dawn, or running a rental charter in the tropics.

The book goes beyond the single purchase. It covers the full life cycle of the product: how to fit gloves for maximum dexterity, how to break them in, how to wash them so they do not become brittle or smelly, and how to diagnose failures like seam splitting or touch-screen pads that stop working. It also surveys the market from a business angle, describing how brands position themselves, where margins exist, and how a serious person can turn a working knowledge of gloves into a side business or a full operation.

Finally, it looks forward to the materials and technologies that are changing the category— from bio-based leathers to integrated touch compatibility— and offers a glossary of terms that helps you talk to manufacturers and suppliers intelligently. This is a reference guide written for people who are serious about the water, not for browsers.

I bought this because I oversee the glove inventory for a dive shop and I wanted something more systematic than guessing based on the season. The book does deliver a solid framework for choosing gloves by task, and the maintenance chapter is genuinely useful, especially the part about how sunscreen and salt degrade the silicone dots. My only real complaint is that a few parts feel like they lean a little hard on manufacturing jargon, and it could use a few more hands-on fit photos. As a starting point for a business buyer, it's decent, but it won't tell you exactly which glove your fleet needs.
