It's rare to find a reference this thorough on a product most people take for granted. The breakdown of webbing types and breaking strengths is exactly what I needed when I started designing my own line. The business chapter was also genuinely useful, with a realistic look at margins and positioning. It's not going to win a literary prize, but it wasn't meant to. It's a tool, and it works.

As a trainer, I get asked constantly for leash recommendations. I used to just tell people to get a 6-foot nylon lead, but I never felt I could explain why. Now I can talk about the difference in hardware quality and why a stiff leather leash might be better for a strong puller. The chapter on troubleshooting has also been helpful for advising clients on fixing issues instead of just buying new ones.

I was most impressed with the chapter on choosing the right leash, which broke down the decision process by dog weight, temperament, and your training philosophy. It’s thoughtful and well researched. I've already started seeing my own equipment in a new light and have replaced my go-to lead with a better one based on the advice here.

I appreciate that this handbook doesn't try to sell me anything, which is rare in this space. The material on maintenance was a huge help, and I've already used the tip about conditioning a leather leash before I put it away for the winter. My only complaint is that it's quite dense; it's not a casual read. But if you need the knowledge, it's all here.
