The Sales Conversation Handbook
A structured, evidence-informed system for turning everyday conversations into committed next steps

non-fiction
Stop losing deals to bad conversation habits. This book gives you a structured, evidence-informed system for every sales conversation you will ever have.
About this book
If you have been in sales for more than a year, you have probably realized that the old advice is broken. 'Always be closing' made you pushy. 'Just build rapport' made you chatty and unproductive. And the modern obsession with 'solution selling' turned your pitch into a 45-minute lecture that ends with a maybe. The common denominator? None of these approaches gives you a workable structure for the messiest, most unpredictable part of the job: the live conversation itself.
This book fixes that. It is built on a simple but difficult-to-accept premise: the problem is not your product, your price, or your leads. It is the way you talk to people. The Sales Conversation Handbook gives you a four-phase framework - Connect, Diagnose, Propose, Confirm - that is rigorous enough to handle edge cases and simple enough to use on the fly. You will learn why your instincts are often wrong, which popular techniques actively undermine you, and the specific daily practices that build durable skill.
This is not a book of scripts. Scripts fail because buyers are not actors following your text. This is a book of systems. You will learn how to think, what to say, and - just as importantly - what to stop doing. Whether you are a founder who hates 'selling', a B2B enterprise rep facing procurement committees, or a consultant who needs to turn a conversation into a contract, these methods are built for you.

β β β β βI've read a lot of sales books and most of them are either basic or sleazy. This one is neither. The first chapter alone made me realize I've been doing 'The Premature Pitching' thing my entire career, and the diagnostic checklist in Chapter 5 confirmed it. The four-phase framework is solid and I've used it in every discovery call this week. I'm rating it 3 stars because some of the advanced tactics in Chapter 8 felt overly nuanced for a weekly sales rhythm, and I wished the author had included a few more varied real-world examples from the service industry. Still, it's the most useful sales book I've picked up in years. It doesn't hype you up, it just gives you a job to do.
