About this book

You just heard the words "myeloid and lymphoid neoplasms associated with PDGFRB rearrangement" and your brain stopped. What does that even mean? Is it cancer? Is it treatable? What happens now? This guide is here to answer those questions in plain, warm, honest language — the kind you'd get from a knowledgeable friend who happens to know a lot about blood disorders.

This is not a medical textbook and it is not medical advice. It is a map. You'll learn what's actually happening in your blood and bone marrow, why it happened (and why it's not your fault), what the tests and appointments will be like, and what your treatment options really are. You'll get practical advice on day-to-day living, how to talk to your family, and how to be a caregiver without losing yourself. And you'll have a list of questions to bring to every single doctor's appointment so you never walk out of the room feeling like you forgot to ask the thing that mattered most.

You didn't ask for this diagnosis. But you can face it — one plain-language step at a time.

Okay, this was genuinely helpful in cutting through the fog after my husband's diagnosis. I loved that it didn't sugarcoat things but also didn't make me want to crawl under a blanket and hide. Chapter 1 finally made me understand what the heck PDGFRB even means, and the questions to ask the doctor became our lifeline. That said, some parts felt a bit repetitive, and I wanted even more detail on the daily living stuff. But overall — a solid, warm, honest guide that I wish they'd handed us at the hospital instead of a pamphlet written in Latin.
